Little Programmers

Little Programmers / Intro to Robotics

Come and play with your new Robot friend!
Campers are going to program Beebots robots and send them on fun adventures like going through a maze, navigating through a city and/or adding and subtracting.
This program is designed for boys and girls ages 5 to 7. This is a camp for beginner level.
This toy won’t start marching with the flick of the on switch. Instead, campers will use sequencing, estimation, and problem solving to program their robots. Plus, other activities during the program cover computational thinking exercises, studying the technology timeline and hardware.
This camp is a great introduction to Robotics.

Intro to Computer Science

Date: July 9 - July 13

Age: 7 to 9 years old

Become a superhero by discovering the power of programming.
Find out what computers can do and how powerful they can be.
This program is designed for boys and girls ages 7 to 9. This is a camp for beginner level.
By the end of this program, students will
- Solve puzzles using block programming on the computer and through interactive “unplugged” activities (without a computer).
- Learn binary code and programming concepts (sequence, conditional, loops...)
- Be introduced to the concept of a function.
- Understand the components of a computer and what they are used for.

Coding with Robots (Beginners)

Date: June 11 - June 15

Time: 9am - 3pm

Age: 7 to 10 year olds

Location: Saratoga High School- Media Arts Facility

Learn through play! Combining a real robot with coding fires up a child’s imagination, inspires dreams, and builds confidence!
This program is designed for boys and girls ages 7 to 10. This is a camp for beginner level.

Navigate the robots through challenging maze, make robots react to their environment, complete coding puzzles on the tablet, work in teams to compete on fun games. Campers will use a series of fun tools (Dash and Dots, Lego® WeDo and Beebots) to engage with technology and use their critical thinking skills.

Fun Art with Scratch Programming

Date: June 18 - June 22

Time: 9am - 3pm

Age: 7 to 10 year olds

Location: Saratoga High School- Media Arts Facility

Explore, imagine and create! Start programming using Scratch (from MIT Labs) and create digital art.
This program is designed for boys and girls ages 7 to 10. This is a camp for beginner and Intermediate level. Using programming language, campers will learn computational thinking skills and put their imagination to work to create really fun drawings!

Code your games with Scratch (beginner to intermediate)

Date: July 16 - July 20

Time: 9am - 3pm

Age: 8 to 12 years old

Location: Saratoga High School- Media Arts Facility

Create your own interactive games using Scratch Programming language!
This program is designed for boys and girls ages 8 to 12. This is a camp for beginner and intermediate levels.
Campers will learn the basics of game design and features necessary to make a fun and interactive game with controls, scores, multiple levels, and user interface.
For intermediate levels, campers will get additional challenges to solve and will learn new concepts that they can integrate in a game of their own design.
Plus, all campers will learn how to share games online and to provide feedback to peers.

Game Design With Python (intermediate)

Date: July 23 - July 27

Age: 11 to 15 years old

Location: Saratoga High School- Media Arts Facility

Draw amazing shapes, build a game and/or animate objects!
This program is designed for boys and girls ages 11 to 15 (6th to 9th grade). This is a camp for intermediate level.
Review the basic programming concepts using Python to draw amazing shapes and dig deeper to build a pong game. Stretch your brain and strengthen your understanding of how to animate objects. Campers must have done some programming classes/camps prior to taking this class.

Web Design using HTML and JavaScript

Date: June 25 - June 29

Time: 9am - 3pm

Age: 11 to 15 years old

Location: Saratoga High School- Media Arts Facility

This program introduces students to the magical world of creating their own webpages using HTML. They will be linking to other sites; learning how to add images; collecting information from visitors. They will also be introduced to JavaScript programming to make their website pages more interactive. At the end of the program, your child will have a website of their own design. Children must be computer literate (master typing and use of the mouse and trackpad is a must).

Children’s creativity is endless. If kids engage in design from an early age, they will be able to expand their creative potential. They are able to imagine things that go beyond expectations. Learning HTML is a fun way for kids to express themselves.
